New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel will travel to Moscow to play for the Paraguayan national team in their friendly against Russia on March 25th. This call-up is yet another warm up game for Coronel who appears to be a fixture with the national team as they build towards Copa America in the United States over the summer.
Coronel has made six appearances for Paraguay, joining the club in September of 2023 for his first call-up. At that time he took part in World Cup qualifiers and since posted three clean sheets in his six appearances. The upcoming game against Russia will be yet another opportunity for Coronel to solidify his position before major tournaments in the coming years.
What this means for New York is unclear as of press time. It isn’t clear if he’ll miss Saturday’s game against Inter Miami or if he will travel beforehand with the team. Either way, the Red Bulls are expected to be severely understaffed due to the league playing through the international break. Daniel Edelman, John Tolkin, Corey Burke, Noah Eile and Emil Forsberg will be with their national teams, leaving head coach Sandro Schwarz with his first true test of his team’s depth chart.
