New York Red Bulls captain Emil Forsberg will be leaving the club for international duty next week with the Swedish national team. The Swedish midfielder has made 86 appearances for his country and participated in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Forsberg joined the Red Bulls in January of this year as the team’s major designated player signing. Since joining he has scored one goal in four games while captaining the club each time out in league play. This coming weekend’s game against Inter Miami will be the first time he won’t feature with the club since joining.

First up for the Swedish national team will be a friendly against Portugal on Thursday, followed by a game against Albania on Monday, March 25th. While he will be missed by the club while away, this is a byproduct of Major League Soccer’s decision to play league games through the international break.
