New York City FC wingback Christian McFarlane may be making the leap to mother-club Manchester city according to Tom Bogert of the Athletic. The move may leave City with a major deficiency in the position as they are still recovering from injuries and returning players from international call-ups.
McFarlane appears to be in Nick Cushing’s plans as the City head coach mentioned that his intention is to have him on the bench for the upcoming game against Inter Miami over the weekend. McFarlane, an English-international, has yet to play for the first team but made over 20 appearances for the NYCFC II team in MLS Next Pro. Most recently, he is returning from a stint with the English U17 national team.
Concerning news for the club, especially since the breaking news last night of former defender Maxime Chanot returning to the league with LAFC. Losing McFarlane may add to the team’s roster issues, however it may open up spots for players currently being cultivated in the reserve team.
