New York Red Bulls midfielder Peter Stoud may have seen his season ended by a major ankle injury suffered in the second half of the game against the Chicago Fire. The injury occurred in the 76 minute while making a sliding tackle on defense. As seen on the video, Stroud’s ankle turned and he was unable to put any weight on it after that.

The injury comes just as Stroud has broken into the starting lineup and after his eighth consecutive start in 2024. More than likely this injury will sideline him for a prolonged period, possibly ending his 2024 season before it truly kicked off.

In total Stroud has made 17 starts for the Red Bulls, nine in 2023. He was one game away from matching his single season start record but will have to wait at least until later this season to match that effort. Last season he made 25 total appearances as was well on his way to becoming a reliable defensive option for head coach Sandro Schwarz this campaign.

More information will be shared when available early next week on Stroud’s condition and what a timetable on his return could be.
