RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko has been a wanted man by many clubs across Europe with Arsenal being the most recent suitor. While it seemed as if he may depart the club, a reversal was made as Leipzig confirmed that Sesko has signed a new contract that will keep the Slovenian with the German club until 2029.

Sesko joined Leipzig in the 2023-24 season, playing in 42 games across all competitions and scoring 18 goals. At the start of the campaign the 21 year-old was more of a substitute than a starter. The departure of Timo Werner mid-season changed that, giving him more of an opportunity to show what he can do. Partnered alongside veteran striker Yussef Poulsen, Sesko has flourished and is expected to be a major contributor when next season starts.

“I had a good first year at Leipzig,” said Sesko to the media. “The overall package is simply outstanding for me. The early contract extension was therefore the logical next step for me.”

While Leipzig failed to win a trophy in 2023-24, they did continue their streak of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Sesko will be a major part of their next run in Europe as the competition changes to a round-robin format that will see him get more chances to show what he can do on a continental stage.

“This underlines our ambitions to be a permanent fixture in the Bundesliga and to be one of the top clubs in Europe,” said Sporting Director Rouven Schroder. “Benjamin Sesko embodies our DNA and playing philosophy perfectly. With the new contract, we can continue to drive our squad planning forward.”
