New York Red Bulls announce that back-up goalkeeper AJ Marcucci has suffered an ACL injury that will keep him out for a significant period of time. Marcucci started the game against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday but left in stoppage time following a delay due to injury.
Marcucci, 25 years-old from West Chester Pennsylvania, had earned his way into a rotation position with the Red Bulls, following a stint over seas in the Finnish first division. Marcucci has made two starts in MLS while also being the key goalkeeper in the Leagues Cup and US Open Cup this season.
Currently New York Red Bulls have dealt with an injury to starting goalkeeper Carlos Coronel which thrust Marcucci into the starting picture but now it will put strain on the team’s depth chart. Aiden Stokes of New York Red Bulls II could be called in but it will remain as to whether the team will dip into the market for a new goalkeeper.
