New York Red Bulls announce the signing of Panamanian winger Rafael Mosquera to an MLS first team contract. The move comes one day after the club traded for an additional international spot from Toronto FC to find a place for the 20 year old.

Mosquera has made 44 appearances for New York Red Bulls II over the past three seasons, scoring 10 goals and tallying nine assists. His move to the first team comes as the club has had issues with injuries in the winger position, including those to Cameron Harper and Lewis Morgan. Mosquera will now join Sandro Schwarz’s first team as the club has six remaining games in the 2025 regular season.

“Rafael has shown great development in New York Red Bulls II,” said Sporting Director Julian de Guzman. “He has very good quality and has great potential to help our club accomplish our goals.”

Mosquera joined New York from CD Plaza Amador in Panama’s first division. Joining as a teenager, the youngster already had first team experience having appeared in 12 games for his first club. He also has international experience with the Panamanian U15, U20 and U23 teams.

“He is a fast and skillful offensive players that will help in our style of play and we are pleased to have him with us,” said head coach Sandro Schwarz.

Mosquera isn’t the only signing New York has made this summer transfer window. Gustov Berggren was also announced but has yet to appear for the club as he is still working through entry into the country. Rumors are also swirling about one more additional signing in the goalkeeping position but may not cross the line before the end of the deadline at midnight.
