Red Bull New York has announced the departure of goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, following the conclusion of his MLS contract at the end of the year according to the team on social media. Coronel, who was the team’s starting goalkeeper since 2021, playing in more than 150 games over the course of five seasons.

Coronel has been with the Red Bull organization for some time. Joining the team’s sister club FC Leifering where he made 67 appearances between 2015 and 2018 before being promoted to Red Bull Salzburg. His time there did not prove fruitful as he was loaned to the Philadelphia Union before eventually making his way to Red Bull New York.

While with the club, he increased his stature with the Paraguayan national team, helping them qualify for Copa America and now the World Cup with nine total appearances.

Where the 28 year old keeper goes from here remains to be seen. However, Red Bull will be looking for a new starting keeper once they settle their head coaching search. Sandro Schwarz departed the club after failing to make the MLS Cup Playoffs, along with Head of Sport Jochen Schneider for personal reasons. Now new Head of Sport, Julian de Guzman, will have to make not just that decision but also where to find the team’s next goalkeeper.

The current roster has two options, Aiden Stokes who appeared in the US Men’s U17 team during the World Cup, and Austin Causey who helped guide New York Red Bulls II to their second third division championship weeks ago.
