Red Bull New York have announced the signing of dynamic American winger Cade Cowell on loan from Chivas de Guadelajara. Cowell, 22 years-old, has experience in MLS as well as internationally in Mexico, making him a new piece in an ever-changing line-up for New York heading into 2026.
“He has had proven success in MLS,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “He is a quick, skillful attacking player that will be an important part of our frontline next season.”
Cowell’s signing comes as the team has parted ways with Lewis Morgan, another attacking player who spent much of his time injured. However, when he was on the field, his contribution reflected much of what the club is hoping to see with Cowell as he brings a bit more youth and versatility in his game.
Cowell’s path started as a homegrown player with San Jose Earthquakes in 2019. Part of the US Men’s national team pipeline for some years before, Cowell has played with the U16, U17, U20, U23 and main national team roster. While with the Earthquakes he made 104 appearances and scoring 10 goals in that time. His work got him the attention of Chivas who signed him in 2024. While there he won player of the month that July and scored eight times in 56 appearances.
His departure from Liga MX and back to the MLS is one that sees a fully mature player return, ready to take on the task of being an essential part of Red Bull in 2026. Gone is the young, upstart, player and in place is a strong veteran who is ready to be the star of a club in a large market.
The move comes as head coach Michael Bradley looks to shape the club into his vision of Red Bull soccer. Like those before him, player selection is key to putting in place what the club hopes will be long term success. The departure of Morgan and Stroud show that the ways of Schwarz and Struber before him are a thing of the past. Cowell represents a new beginning and one that will be an exciting watch come February.
