US Men’s National Team legend Michael Bradley has been named the new head coach of Red Bull New York. The former Metrostar and MLS legend spent 2025 with Red Bull New York II where the team won the MLS Next Pro title. His work with new Head of Sport Julian de Guzman also made him an easy pick as he has already been integrated into the team’s current playing style.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work alongside everyone here and do my part to help this club achieve the success our fans deserve,” said Bradley through the team.
Bradley’s history with the club is undeniable. A MLS Superdraft pick in 2004, playing in 30 games between that year and 2005. The son of MLS legendary head coach Bob Bradley, Michael followed a path that led him to success in Europe with clubs like Borussia Monchengladbach, Aston Villa and Roma before returning to the US with Toronto FC. With them he was a part of one of league’s most successful clubs, winning MLS Cup, the Supporters Shield and the Canadian Cup.
As a coach, Bradley spent time as an assistant under his father with Stabaek in Norway before joining Red Bull II in 2025. For New York, he is the second former player to be on the bench with Mike Petke being the first back in 2013.
“He leads with calm confidence,” said Head of Sport de Guzman. “(He) has a great way of connecting with people. We are excited for Michael to bring his philosophy to our first team and continue to lead our club towards success.”
That success will be crucial in 2026 as the club failed to make the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. The club saw the departure of head coach Sandro Schwarz just one year after the winning the Eastern Conference championship in 2025. Rumors of player movement also continues with the likes of Lewis Morgan, Peter Stroud and Daniel Edelman being linked to moves away from the club.
