New York City FC have appointed former MLS veteran Todd Dunivant as the team’s new Sporting Director following the departure of David Lee. NYCFC announce this move a day after their roster decisions, paving the way for a clear 2026 off-season.
Dunivant joins the club after spending the last eight years with Sacramento Republic, first as the team’s General Manager starting in 2018 and then club president in 2021. Over that time the Republic made seven USL Championship playoff appearances and an impressive run to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final in 2022.
“Since joining MLS, New York City FC have quickly established themselves as perennial a winner,” said Dunivant. “From the club’s on-the-field results, to building our future home in Etihad Park, New York City FC are a world-class organization with limitless potential and an unmatched fanbase.”
Previous to being a soccer executive, Dunivant was a player for 12 years in MLS. His time spanned from San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Red Bull New York to Toronto FC. Over that time he was a five-time MLS Cup winner with the Galaxy and Earthquakes. In 2005 he was a US Open Cup winner with the Galaxy as well. The move continues to show the growth of the league through the pipeline of ex-players to the front office.
“The club’s strong foundation is something we will build upon from day one,” said Dunivant. “I’m eager to join the incredible players, coaches and staff that already exist at NYCFC. The future has never been brighter for the club and Major League Soccer. I look forward to accomplishing big things together in 2025 and beyond.”
