Red Bull New York announces the completion of a transfer for Nehuen Benedetti from Club Estudiantes de la Plata in Argentina. Having been on loan with Red Bull II, the move is a confirmation of just how happy the club has been with the 20 year-old and look to make a long-term, four-year, investment in the player.
“Nehuen is the type of player who wants to get better every single day,” said head coach Michael Bradley. “His work rate is excellent, and we are looking forward to giving him this opportunity with our first team.”
Benedetti made 23 appearances with Red Bull New York II and score 11 goals. He was an important part to the 2023 championship run which saw the club raise their second third division title in the club’s decade-long history. His goal contributions are tied with Tom Barlow for second most in a single season for club.
The midfielder joins at a moment where Red Bull is in transition. Peter Stroud has departed the club and rumors have indicated that Daniel Edelman may be leaving as well. Benedetti will join a young and hungry group which includes Adri Mehmeti, Gustov Berggren, Mohammed Sofo and Ronald Donkor. The core is getting younger as the team hopes to find long term success with players that have come through the reserve team in recent years.
“He has earned this opportunity with our first team,” said Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. “We are looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish next season.”
