Red Bull New York have made their first acquisition of the off-season with the signing of defender Justin Che from the Belgian team Brondby IF. The 22 year-old American has spent a significant time abroad, gathering experience from the reserve teams in the Bundesliga before loan spells in the Netherlands and Belgium.
“Justin is an intelligent defender that has great speed and will help add to our backline this upcoming season,” said newly minted head coach Michael Bradley. “He has played a lot of minutes all across Europe and will be another great person to add to our roster to help our club accomplish its goals.”
Che, a Texas native, started his career with North Texas FC, then of USL League One. He made 16 appearances before moving to MLS with FC Dallas. There he made 15 appearances between 2020 and 2023 before moving in to Europe. While there he gained experience at the Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim reserve teams. His transfer to Brondby didn’t produce many appearances but he garnered 34 between ADO Den Haag and Patro Eisden.
His speed and defensive versatility is something that called to the new regime and expectations are that he will be a major part of the defense in 2026. There are still many questions on the status of Sean Nealis as well as who will anchor the goalkeeping position. However, the signing of Che is a large step in the right direction as the team takes shape under Bradley.
