Red Bull New York has announced the termination of Alexander Hack’s contract. The 32 year-old German defender spent all of 2025 with the club but new management has seen a major overhaul in the team’s definition heading into 2026.
Hack played 21 games for New York as the club failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in more than a decade. He had one goal and one assist in that time but was a part of a defense that transitioned between veteran and young players, including the likes of Omar Valencia. Hack’s veteran contribution wasn’t enough for the club to meet their goals but showed the current management just where they need to go in the future.
Hack’s experience is primarily made up of his time in Germany with Mainz 05. He made 133 appearances, a club where former head coach Sandro Schwarz had both a playing and coaching career before joining New York two years ago.
Red Bull has already signed Justin Che as well as re-signing Tim Parker while releasing Sean Nealis. New Head of Sport Julian de Guzman has reshaped the club with more to come. This includes new head coach Michael Bradley who will be introduced to the media later today.
