It needed the final kick in the game but Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting handed Red Bull New York a point with a stoppage time goal in a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC. The home team kept their lead for a majority of the time, keeping Red Bull at bay for much of the contest. Despite the point, New York continues to have a significant issue scoring goals.

Both teams played a high-energy first half, focusing on creating their chances through moments in transition. Both goalkeepers were essential in keeping the scoreline close, shutting off lanes and making big saves when necessary. Julian Hall’s return to the striker position gave him dangerous moments but keeper Luka Gavran was up to the task.

The game’s first goal came just minutes before the first half whistle when Gavran sprang Toronto’s offense in the transition. He played a ball to Djordie Mihilovic who took on his defender one-on-one. He was able to find Daniel Salloi who chipped the ball over Ethan Horvath for Toronto’s only goal of the game.

Red Bull came out with ambition in the second half, creating key moments for captain Emil Forsberg who missed a key chance in front of goal. Later in the half, the ball ping-ponged to Forsberg again who couldn’t put it on net. A review for a potential penalty against Julian Hall also came back negative as the club struggled to find their moment on the afternoon.

The club now finds their record at to 2-1-1 on the season, exposing their issues in front of goal. Red Bull will remain on the road next week as they travel to Charlotte next Saturday for a pivotal early-season match-up.
