New York City FC have had a fantastic start to 2026, despite dropping a result to Inter Miami two weeks ago. The club still sits just three points out of first place and have shown a proven ability to score goals and win games without star striker Alonso Martinez. The club still knows there is more to improve on and midfielder Keaton Parks, who has been through different versions of NYC, knows better than anyone.

“We’ve had a very strong start to the season,” said Parks. “I think we have a lot of good things, but we can always progress and get better. I think we are scoring lots of goals, which is great without a true nine. We’re doing well there. I think we’re defending well. I’m happy with the start so far but not content.”

Last season NYCFC was just one win away from returning to MLS Cup. Head coach Pascal Jansen’s first season success has carried over into this current campaign and the club has responded his adjustments. Parks, as a player returning from injury, has constantly looked to play a major role in Jansen’s team. He has rewarded the club’s faith in him with two goals already in 2026.

“Obviously we grew into this system and style of play that Pascal wants throughout last season. I think we’ve carried that momentum into this year because of all the returning players. Everyone knows Pascal, Pascal knows everybody. I’m lucky to be able to jump back into this group and be a part of that momentum.”

City are hoping to regain that momentum as St. Louis SC travels to Citi Field on Saturday night. The shadow of Etihad Park grows across the street and the club’s time playing in baseball stadiums is quickly coming to an end. For Parks and NYC, it’s about continuing to use the advantages of the situation to get results and show that they are one of the elite clubs in MLS this season.
