Gotham FC have been busy during the summer break by announcing the signing of defender Jess Carter from Chelsea FC. The five-time English champion will be with Gotham through the 2026 season, solidifying an already formidable defense that includes Tierna Davidson.
“The club is playing at an incredible level right now,” said Carter. “I cannot wait to be a part of all of it.”
Carter, 26 years-old, played her entire career in England, starting with Birmingham City and then Chelsea since 2018. Along the way she accumulated five league titles, three FA Cups and two Women’s League Cups. Along the way she made over 150 appearances for the London-based giants, making quite the impression on head coach Juan Carlos Amoros.
“Jess is one of the best players in the world,” said Amoros. “We are very excited for Jess to join Gotham FC. She can really shine with our style of football and I believe our fans will enjoy her way of playing.”
Gotham are currently on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions with only one loss in their last 14 games. Currently they are in fourth place in the NWSL, seven points back of league leaders Orlando Pride. The team also added forward Mak Whitham last week, showing their ambition as the calendar enters the fall stretch.
