New York Red Bulls end the month of may with a relatively easy win over Atlanta United, 2-0 at SI Stadium on Saturday night for their third win in a row. Goals from Cameron Harper in the third minute and Eric Choupo-Moting just before the 30th minute was all the team needed to cruise to a much needed win over an Eastern Conference rival.
New York’s high press was on full display minutes into the game as Atlanta legend Miguel Almiron made an errand pass that was pounced on by Harper. With a few touches, the Red Bulls winger opened some space and put the ball past Brad Guzan. The game opened up somewhat from there as Atlanta attempted to play over the top of the New York defense. Choupo-Moting stopped any attempt at the opposition gaining momentum as Harper played a ball into the box and to the German international’s foot for his 10th goal of the season.
New York didn’t have the easiest second half as Atlanta forced themselves back into the game. Key saves from goalkeeper Carlos Coronel kept them in the game, while the counter attack also helped players like Emil Forsberg and Serge Ngoma find chances at goal. While, New York didn’t extend the lead, they were able to fend of Atlanta for a key win to end the month of May.
Red Bulls have now played their 17th game of 2025, half way through the MLS season. Their record of 8-6-3 has them sitting in sixth place, well above the playoff line by four points. Choupo-Moting also moves into third place in the Golden Boot race, showing just how important a striker like him has been for the club this season.
Next is a much needed two-week break before the Red Bulls take to the road against Austin FC on June 14th.
