New York City FC striker Jovan Mijatovic won’t be rejoining the team soon as his loan with Belgian first division club Oud-Heverlee Leuven has been extended for another year through June of 2026. Mijatovic joined the club in 2024 with the hopes of being a strong back-up to their striker options which included Talles Magno and Mounsef Bakrar at the time.
The 19 year-old Serbian forward made only two starts for NYC in 2024 but an additional eight appearances off the bench. He was unable to score a goal or notch an assist. Upon returning to Europe at the end of the 2024 campaign, his intention to stay took hold as he made it clear his path in MLS wasn’t to his satisfaction.
His time in Belgium also hasn’t produced much in the ways of appearances as he’s only stepped onto the field once for the club. Whether he ever returns to City remains to be seen. However, that won’t happen until at least halfway through next season.
