New York City FC were too much for Toronto FC as they dispatch the away side at Yankee Stadium 3-1 thanks to a goal and an assist from star player Hannes Wolf. The game saw City put together one of their most consistent performances of 2025 as the Canadian club barely ever looked to be dangerous in the contest.

NYC controlled the game early as Toronto drew a yellow card within minutes of the opening whistle. That set the stage for a tentative defensive performance from the visitors and an increased level of confidence for head coach Pascal Jansen. Their level of play paid off in the 20th minute as a shot from Wolf deflected off the post and past former City goalkeeper Sean Johnson for the game’s opening goal.

City continued to push forward in the second half and found another goal in the 49th minute when defender Mitja Ilenic scored from the center of the box to double the lead. Substitutes from Toronto did little to change the contest although they did find a goal in the 70th minute to add a bit of drama late in the contest.

Defender Kevin O’Toole put an end to that drama four minutes later as Wolf assisted to make the game 3-1. NYC rode out the rest of the contest, notching a signature when after both coach and players spoke earlier in the week about the fixture’s importance.

The win brings NYC up to sixth place at 31 points, two points ahead of rivals New York Red Bulls. With a healthy team in sight and a player like Wolf in full form, head coach Jansen will feel confident that his club can secure an even higher position with more performances like this through the month of July.
