New York City FC forward Talles Magno has departed the club on loan for Brazilian powerhouse SC Corinthians through June of 2025. The move comes after much speculation and frustration from the player who had not seen much of the field this year, despite injuries that plagued much of the past 12 months.
Magno joined City as a young designated player in 2021 and scored 19 goals with 11 assists in that time. He was a part of the MLS Cup winning side and appeared poised to take over the lead scoring spot from Valentin Castellanos when he departed a year later. Unfortunately, it didn’t progress that way with Magno only scoring seven MLS goals in 2022 and four in 2023.
A knee injury kept him off the field for most of the year but the player found it difficult to break into the first team ahead of Julian Fernandez, Agustin Ojeda or Alonso Martinez. Moreover the talented Brazilian found it difficult to secure a particular position under head coach Nick Cushing, whether it be as a forward or as an attacking midfielder during the absence of club legend Maxi Moralez.
“Given his huge potential, we believe that this is a great opportunity for Talles to continue to develop and and play important minute for a top Brazilian side,” said Sporting Director David Lee on the departure. “We look forward to following his progress and wish Talles all the best during his loan spell in Brazil.”
Magno will remain with Corinthians until next June but there is a possibility that the loan can be extended until December of 2025. In the meantime NYCFC will utilize the previously mentioned players as well as Serbian international Jovan Mijatovic, who scored in the last game against FC Cincinnati.
City will be continuing their push for a Leagues Cup title tonight against New England Revolution in Foxboro.
