New York Red Bulls have announced that forward Serge Ngoma has extended his contract with the club until 2027 with an option for 2028. The 19 year-old New Jersey native has had trouble staying on the field, suffering a knee injury before the start of the 2024 season but made his return to the field this past weekend against Philadelphia.
“Serge has had to go through some very difficult times during the last two years,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. “He never lost his positive attitude. His work ethic is exceptional and we are excited to give him this new opportunity.”
Ngoma has two goals in nine total appearances for New York but his history with the club goes even further back than the last three years he has been a contracted talent. His first appearance came with New York Red Bulls II in 2020 and he made 23 total appearances for the club over that span. He signed with the first team in 2022 on a four-year deal but that has now been extended.
The contract is another example of how the Red Bulls have put their faith in developing players. As an academy player, Ngoma joins John Tolkin, Peter Stroud, Sean Nealis, Daniel Edelman and Ronald Donkor as players brought up through the academy.
“Serge has proven to be a great player on the field and a great human being off the field,” said head coach Sandro Schwarz. “We are excited to keep Serge at the club and to continue to help in his development for years to come.”
