Club legend Maxi Moralez will return to NYCFC for the 2025 season according to the team. The Argentine midfielder has been with the club since 2017, making NYC his home and where he has created his legacy which included the club’s only MLS Cup in 2021.
“This club has become a second home to me,” said Moralez. “I’m incredibly grateful for the trust and support I’ve received from everyone here. Coming back from injury last season was a challenging but rewarding experience. Being able to contribute to the team’s success again meant so much to me.”
Moralez has become the symbolic player of City and traversed many versions of the club. First with an international direction as it’s direction to now with a more coach, and local oriented feel as the new stadium approaches completion in Queens. Moralez has seen both the highs and lows the club to make him uniquely capable of imparting knowledge to the incoming crop of young players.
Moralez’s career was one that bounced around the world before joining NYCFC in 2017. He played with Racing Club in Argentina, FC Moscow in Russia, Velez Sarsfield and Atalanta in Italy before joining City here in MLS. Along the way he’s played nearly 200 games for the club and established himself as one of the leaders and pillars of the team historically.
“Maxi’s impact extends beyond what everyone sees during the matches,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “He plays a vital role in the locker room and mentoring our young players. As we continue to build, having a player like Maxi’s caliber and experience is pivotal and we’re excited to see his contributions this season.”
NYCFC’s season will start in Miami against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami on February 22nd but the club will also partake in the preseason tournament at Coachella Valley in mid February.
