New York Red Bulls lose their second game of 2025 and continue their woeful history in New England by losing to the Revolution 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Star player Carles Gil scored both goals for the Revs, their first two from their own players this season. While designated player Eric Choupo-Moting did find the back of the net, it wasn’t enough to keep Caleb Porter’s men at bay.

The first half had saw New England win a majority of the changes. Red Bulls struggled to create opportunities an found themselves frustrated in the midfield. It was in the 28th minute that the Revs opened the scoring. Gil curled a free kick from outside of the box, past goalkeeper Carlos Coronel. From there Luca Langoni provided service for Ignatius Ganago but Coronel was up to the task, making two big saves.

New York found their footing late in the first half when they were able to string together dangerous passes in the final third. Captain Emil Forsberg found Peter Stroud in the box, who in turn found Choupo-Moting for his first goal of the season from open play. Red Bulls entered the second half with renewed vigor and a belief that perhaps they could change recent history at Gillette Stadium.

Second half substitutes Mohammed Sofo and Serge Ngoma added a spark to New York’s offense. They were able to move the ball better and create chances, although most were from outside of the box. New England held strong defensively and were able to find their winning effort in stoppage time. A late tackle from Sean Nealis brought down Ganago, sending Gil to the line for the game-winning effort. His conversion sealed the result and added to New York’s frustration.

The Red Bulls will remain at eight points as their record falls to 2-2-2 in 2025. While Choupo-Moting found the back of the net, the team’s lack of consistency on offense and their mistakes on defense will send them home next week with much to reconsider against the Chicago Fire.
