Red Bull New York II continues their process of developing young talent with forward Christian Gallagher presenting himself as the latest standout in recent weeks. The loanee who has spent a majority of the season with the reserve side, was able to score his third goal of the season in a losing effort against New England Revolution II last weekend. Now, under head coach Dominik Wohlert, the 18 year-old looks to take his game to another level.

“He has always had his style of play and I think his style of play is really working,” said Wohlert to the media ahead of this weekend’s game against Toronto FC II. “I think Christian was able, in the last couple of weeks and months, to push his own game a little bit to the next level. Now he combines that with scoring goals.”

Gallagher may not have earned first team minutes just yet, but his play for Red Bull II has earned more than a few looks, especially considering he has been able to make an impact in various ways. This past week he played a full half, coming on in the second frame as Red Bull attempted to make a comeback. His goal gave the club some life, despite not being able to pull out the win. Previously he also scored in the derby against NYCFC II. Now, against Toronto, Gallagher is making it difficult for the club to keep him on the bench with his level of play.

“I’m happy that he trusts me,” said Gallagher about the coach’s confidence in his performances. “I’m happy to make an impact with the team, so it’s not just me it’s the team. I’m appreciative that he trusts me and the team trusts me. So I’m grateful and happy.”

Red Bull II can use a boost as their recent run of form has been disappointing. Four of their last five games have been losses and their only win over that stretch was a shootout victory, grabbing them only two points. Those recent losses represent the club’s first run of bad form in 2026 and drops them to fifth place in the Eastern Conference. A win over Toronto, who themselves have had issues winning outside of Canada, would see the club back on track as the defending champions of MLS Next Pro.
