Red Bull Global Head of Soccer Jurgen Klopp will leave his position after just a year and a half to take the vacant head coaching position with the Men’s German National Team. The expected move comes after Germany’s shock round of 32 loss to Paraguay at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Klopp, who many expected would accept the position, now looks to reshape a team that has lacked identity for several cycles.
While his finger prints aren’t necessarily visible within Red Bull New York, his philosophy of high-pressure, attacking, football certainly fit in with the global game plan of each each around the world. In his brief time, Klopp made several visits to Red Bull training facility, speaking with head coach Michael Bradley and Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. The shift towards even more reliance on younger, more dynamic players, is also one that Red Bull has been known for but also a trait that has defined Klopp’s career even during his time at Liverpool.
Who takes over as Head of Global Soccer remains to be seen. Assumptions are that Mario Gomez, who is currently serving as Technical Director of Red Bull Soccer, could step into that role. His philosophy is one that has aligned with Klopp as they worked hand-in-hand with Red Bull New York over recent years.
Klopp joins Germany with years of experience in the Bundesliga and English Premier League. He is the last coach to raise a title with Borussia Dortmund while also being the coach that ended a decades long drought at Liverpool. Fans in every country he’s worked in have loved his infectious attitude, wit and maverick style of football. Now, Klopp brings that to the national stage with a German team that is in much need of a revamp.
