RB Leipzig prized midfielder Dani Olmo has departed the East German club for La Liga’s FC Barcelona. The Spaniard who had a career summer when he lifted the European Championship, has impressed many teams and now finally made the move back to his home country.
“He has proven his worth time and time again for RB Leipzig,” said Leipzig Sporting Director Marchel Schafer. “His move to FC Barcelona is therefore, once again, a recognition of the good work carried out in Leipzig. Dani was not only a very valuable player for RBL on the pitch, he also has a great character and a strong personality. We wish Dani all the best for his future and look forward to hopefully seeing him again soon on the international stage.”
Olmo joined Leipzig in 2020 and quickly became a dynamic piece to an already young and formidable club. Along the way he helped the team win two consecutive German Cups and was the star playier in last seasons German Supercup where he scored a hat trick against Bayern Munich. Along the way he played in nearly 150 games, scoring 29 goals and notching 34 assists.
The move was not something unexpected. Olmo had been linked for many years with teams like PSG, Barcelona and even Manchester United. However, injuries stifled his progress and put questions on his ability to rebound. This summer’s run in the European Championship set all of that to rest and now he moves on having made a major impact at Leipzig and in the Bundesliga.
