Gotham FC have given head coach Juan Carlos Amoros a five-year contract extension, keeping him with the club until 2029. The Spanish coach has helped Gotham reach unimaginable heights with a 2023 NWSL Championship and a conference final appearance in 2024.

“Juan has played an enormous role in shifting the culture of this club over the last two years,” said team General manager Yael Averbuch West. “We couldn’t be more delighted to have him continue with us as we work to bring more silverware to Gotham FC.”

Amoros joined Gotham in 2023, turning over a roster that had finished last just one year prior. The turnaround saw them nearly finish in a home playoff spot but a chaotic decision day saw them just make it into the final sixth spot. From there the team took to the road winning their way to San Diego for the NWSL Championship game where they defeated the Seattle Reign to lift their first major trophy.

Along the way, Amoros won 2023 coach of the year and quickly became a notable name in the professional women’s game in this country. Previously he spent time with the Houston Dash but honed his craft in Europe where he spent nine seasons with Tottenham Hotspur women before joining Real Betis’ women’s side.

“The ambition, passion and dedication I see every day from our players and staff inspires me,” said coach Amoros. “I am looking forward to what we can achieve together in the future.”

The season rolls on for Gotham as they pause for the international break but will return to Sports Illustrated Stadium on Sunday, April 13th to play North Carolina Courage.
